Open

ONE HANDED.

All NCHA rules shall apply. Will be penalized for reining.

ONE HANDED.

For horses experienced on a cow, shall be shown one handed in an approved shanked bit. No penalties for reining.

TWO HANDED.

For horses experienced on a cow, but not ready to be shown in the bridle. To be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

TWO HANDED.

For horses that are starting to stop and turn with a cow, watching a cow, but requiring help from rider throughout the run. For horses that have never come out of the herd. To be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

100 Boxing

TWO HANDED.

For green horses that have not started to stop, turn or move with a cow and are not ready to come out of the herd. To be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Novice, Never Won a Buckle

ONE OR TWO HANDED

SHOWS 1-2 ARE BOXING ONLY. SHOWS 3-4 ARE HERD WORK.

For novice cutters that have never won a buckle at any cutting or cow horse event. Riders shall not ever have won money at any NCHA or NRCHA event or shall not ever have ridden or trained or assisted in training cutting or reined cow horses for remuneration. Riders who have previously won the Novice class are not eligible to compete in it again. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Non-Pro

ONE OR TWO HANDED

For any rider who has not received direct or indirect remuneration to work in any manner in the following activities: showing, training, or assisting in the training of a cutting horse or cutting horse rider. Riders must show their own, legally owned horses and may not compete on borrowed, leased or otherwise ‘non-owned’ horses. (An exception will be made for working cowboys and cowgirls who are riding ranch-owned horses.) If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Youth 12 & under

ONE OR TWO HANDED BOXING ONLY

For any youth 12 years old and under as of January 1 of show season year. Youth shall box at all shows. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Youth 13-17

ONE OR TWO HANDED

SHOWS 1-2 ARE BOXING ONLY. SHOWS 3-4 ARE HERD WORK.

For any youth ages 13 to 17 years old as of January 1 of show season. Youth shall box for the first three shows and come out of the herd for the final two shows. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Open Boxing

ONE OR TWO HANDED

For any horse and rider combination. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Harney County Resident   

ONE OR TWO HANDED

Rider must reside in Harney County. For any horse and rider combination. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Ranch Horse

ONE OR TWO HANDED

For horses that have never had professional cutting or cow horse training or that have never competed in an NCHA or NRCHA approved event. If ridden one handed, horse must be shown in approved shanked bit. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. No penalties for reining.

 

Bridleless or Bareback

Open to any contestant that is riding without a bridle (tack rein permitted) OR without a saddle. If ridden two handed, horse must be shown in snaffle, shanked snaffle or bosal. Contestants will show their horses out of the herd. This is a jackpot class. $10 of entry fee goes towards cattle fees, the remainder will be added to jackpot. CASH ONLY entry!
